Harnessing the power of the Groupium platform in a successful 'Solarize' project

Solarize campaigns usually go through the following phases:
  1. A local government agency calls for communities to respond to an RFI expressing their interest in a Solarize campaign.
  2. A short list of communities, which show the most promising program, is created.
  3. The agency publishes a vendor RFP inviting vendors to quote a system for the selected communities.
  4. Participating communities, aided by the organizing agency and external consultants, select a winning vendor.
  5. The selected vendor recruits buyers to participate in the Solarize deal for their neighborhood. Local government and consultants aid getting the word out.
  6. Buyers register for a deal.
  7. The selected vendor proposes contracts to registered buyers.
  8. Buyers sign a contract with the selected vendor.
  9. The deal closes.

Steps 3-9 above can be carried out using Groupium. However, Groupium can also be integrated in an ongoing campaign as well, after a vendor is selected. (Steps 5 – 9).

How to start using the Groupium platform after vendor selection?

If a vendor has already been selected, then there are two methods that Groupium can be used:

a. Vendor initiated group deal

b. Auction based group deal

Vendor initiated group deal method

With this method, group organizers are excluded from the rest of the process which is run and managed exclusively by the selected vendor.
  1. The selected vendor prepares a group deal on Groupium. Such a deal would be based on tiered pricing scheme as quoted in the winning RFP.
  2. The vendor publishes the deal and, using the platform’s marketing tools, invites buyers to register for the deal. Buyers can also use the tool to invite their neighbors thus creating a viral marketing campaign.
  3. Interested buyers register and the vendor suggests to each of them a solar configuration (shopping cart) that best matches their needs.
  4. Buyers submit their ‘shopping cart’ through Groupium and wait for the vendor to propose a contract.
  5. The vendor issues a contract proposal through the platform.
  6. Buyers accept / reject or discuss the contract with the vendor using Groupium messaging tools.
  7. The vendor closes the deal.

Auction based group deal method

With this method, group organizers can participate and monitor program execution. To that end, a 'simulated' auction based group deal is created first.
  1. A group organizer for the local community, sets up an auction based group deal (form based with original RFP documents attached). This deal represents the original RFP with added control fields.
  2. The group organizer starts a simulated bidding process and invites the selected vendor to submit a bid.
  3. The selected vendor fills in the bidding form and attaches the original bid documents
  4. The group organizer ends the simulated bidding process and selects the vendor.
  5. Using the platform’s marketing tools; both group organizer and vendor invite buyers to register for the deal. Buyers can also use the tool to invite their neighbors thus creating a viral marketing campaign.
  6. Interested buyers register and the vendor suggests to each of them a solar configuration (shopping cart) that best matches their needs.
  7. Buyers submit their ‘shopping cart’ through Groupium and wait for the vendor to propose a contract.
  8. The vendor issues a contract proposal through the platform.
  9. Buyers accept / reject or discuss the contract with the vendor using Groupium messaging tools.
  10. The vendor closes the deal.
